Wind-Resistant by construction
The Retrosun Duo holds its position in conditions where standard awnings fail. With the strongest scissor arms, steel tension springs and a rigid frame construction it delivers wind resistance on every terrace.
Steel scissor arms
The steel arms (built with double-thickness 12 mm slats and weighing upto 90kg) provide the rigidity to resist wind pressure.
Stainless steel springs
Springs under constant tension keep the fabric taut and the structure stable, including in gusting conditions.
Wind Class 2
Rated to Wind Class 2, built for conditions where other awnings reach their limits.
Rainproof by design
The Retrosun Duo scissor arm canopy keeps the terrace open when it rains. Dickson fabric, an integrated gutter and an optional fabric support system work together to handle wet conditions without compromise.
Integrated gutter
Rainwater is collected and channelled away through an integrated gutter so there are no dripping edges.
Extra Fabric support
(optional) Prevents the fabric from sagging under the weight of standing water, ensuring clean drainage.
Dickson Max Fabric
(optional) Dickson MAX is fully waterproof thanks to an extra water-repellent acrylic coating.

How is the scissor arm awning operated?
The Retrosun Duo is operated by a Somfy electric tube motor, controlled by remote or smartphone. Optional wind and sun sensors automate the process further, closing the awning when wind picks up and opening it when the sun comes out.
What is the difference between Dickson Orchestra and Dickson Max?
Both are acrylic fabrics with excellent UV protection and lasting colour. The difference is waterproofing: Orchestra has good water resistance (>350 mm) and works well in most conditions. MAX adds a clear coating on one side that makes it fully waterproof (>1200 mm), the choice for year-round use or wetter climates. MAX comes in 28 colours; Orchestra offers a wider range of 173 colours.

What is the difference between the Retrosun Classic and the Retrosun Duo?
The Classic is a single scissor arm awning, wall-mounted to the façade of a building. The Duo consists of two awnings on a freestanding structure supported by central posts. This makes the Duo the right choice for large terraces that are not adjacent to a façade, or where wall-mounting is not possible or desirable.
What is the difference between the Retrosun Duo and a terrace canopy?
A terrace canopy is a fixed, permanent structure, typically on four corner posts with a solid roof. The Retrosun Duo is a retractable system: the fabric opens in good weather and closes when it rains or the sun becomes too intense. The structure is slimmer, requires less groundwork, and lets in natural light when the awning is open. No building permit required for the awning itself (subject to local regulations, check with your municipality).
What is the difference between the Retrosun Duo awning and a parasol?
A parasol provides shade at a single point. The Retrosun Duo covers a large terrace as one continuous system: wind-resistant, rain-resistant and motor-operated. No loose objects that can blow over, no limited coverage area.
How many posts does a Retrosun Duo require?
The Duo rests on central support posts. The exact number depends on the width of the installation. Unlike a fixed canopy, no posts are required at the corners of the terrace, preserving usable surface area and maintaining open sightlines.
